Liverpool has got a large student population, so there’s plenty of student accommodation to choose from. The main student areas are Tuebrook Kensington, Toxteth, Wavertree/Smithdown, Aigburth, Allerton/Mossley Hill.

The closest to the city centre are Tuebrook and Toxteth. Out of the two Toxteth is a little more expensive, you’ll find fewer students here.

Wavertree/Smithdown, Aigburth and Allerton/Mossley Hill are quite far out. You’ll probably have to get a bus to get into town from these places. The rents are quite low though and these places tend to be quite popular with students.

Some choose to stay in the city centre. This means you’re close to the action, but rents will be higher here and you’ll likely be interspersed with working professionals and families.

Liverpool is a world-famous city. This place birthed The Beatles, Wayne Rooney, and Elvis Costello! This city is known for its amazing music scene and it’s extremely unique accent! Take a look at our guide and you’ll be a proper Scouser in no time!

Getting Around

Liverpool has a great bus network that’ll take you around the city. The city can be quite spread out at times, but you’ll soon get the hang of the local buses.

For students attending the University of Liverpool, you won’t need to catch any buses to get to campus from the centre of town, as it’s only a short walk.

If you’re attending Liverpool Hope University, to get to Hope Park, hop on the number 75 or 86c bus. To get to the creative campus, get the 21 to Shaw Street or the 101 to Langsdale Street. These will drop you near to the creative campus.

If you’re attending Liverpool John Moores University, you won’t need any buses to get to the city campus or the Mount Pleasant, as they are both about a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

In terms of getting around by taxi, there are lots of taxi ranks in the city centre and an average fare won’t cost too much. As Liverpool is a little busier than most cities, you may find your fare is a little more expensive if you get stuck in traffic. Alternatively, Uber is available in Liverpool.

TIP: If you want a speedy way to get around the city, bike rental is available in Liverpool for as little as £1 a day or £5 a week. Find out more here.
